The most important thing you have to do is plan. You don’t want to do all this work and end up having to go back to the supermarket again for those pesticide laden fruits and vegetables. So let’s go through a plan for the things to consider for how to grow organic vegetables.

Your Organic Vegetable Garden Checklist

The most crucial item when you plan to grow organic vegetables is where is your water supply. – You need a source of water close by to your organic garden. Can you install an irrigation system with a timer to this water source? Be careful not to overwater or underwater your garden. Either situation will damage your plants. Proper watering should be consistent throughout the season.

You need to look at how your plot is facing. If you live in the Northern Hemishphere then you should have it facing south. The opposite is the case for living in the Southern Hemisphere. This helps you get the necessary morning and afternoon sun. Your garden requires approximately 7-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Clear any trees that may be blocking the sunlight for your garden.

Research what type of mulch you want to use. Being an organic garden, you’ll want to use organic mulch. Compost is great for mulch because of its benefits and plant feeding qualities.

What type of vegetable(s) do you want to grow and how much effort are you willing to make? Select vegetables or fruits that are conducive for the area you live. Even if you want a particular fruit or vegetable, it may not do well where you inhabit. You can contact local agencies to assist you with your choices. Do not put the crops too close when planting. Follow the recommended supplier guidelines for planting and actually be more conservative and spread the plants out further.

Don’t overplant especially when you first start. Start small and only plant what you will use.

Use quality plants and not “cheap” transplants that will die shortly after planting.

Pests and Critters

Controlling the pests is an important part of planning to grow organic vegetables. You could even plant certain disease and insect resistant plants in your garden. This would reduce risking having your organic vegetable garden ruined by pests. Options such as using human hair for spreading around plants or planting harmful insect plants have been chosen to combat such problems.

Making Your Own Compost

Making your own compost can be an option when you plan to grow organic vegetables. Compost can be accumulated by adding organic items in a pile but be careful not to end up with nothing more than a smelly mess. You can accumulate both hard and soft things such as grass clippings and biodegradable food waste along with old plants, flowers and weeds. Do not use such things as dog or cat fecal matter. While you can use such things as hedge clippings these things are slow to breakdown and are not the best choice.

To take advantage of more information about how to grow organic vegetables and other free quality information and eBook giveaways visit eDiy Home Projects.

How to Start on the Right Path You’ve probably heard the expression “If you fail to plan, then plan to fail” This really applies when you want to grow organic vegetables.
