During the last several years we’ve observed veggie gardening<\/a> happening more often around the country. What’s the main reason veggie gardening is becoming so popular these days? <\/p>\n

From what I’ve seen it’s due to the same issues that started us vegetable gardening, to save cash at the grocery store. Having less job stability, rising prices without getting a raise plus a economic downturn which simply won’t disappear is a great incentive to start your first vegetable garden.<\/p>\n

We were feeling the pinch, kinda like every one we know, we decided to try our hand at vegetable gardening as one way to save money. It worked, we saved money and found gardening can be extremely fulfilling as well as rewarding.<\/p>\n

Surprise, Surprise We Actually Grew Healthy Vegetables<\/p>\n

As a kid growing up on a farm we had a huge garden which required pulling weeds, kids weeded by hand while Dad used the hoe. Of course weeding was a chore I didn’t care much for. These days I’m the dad and get to use the hoe, just like my dad used to do.<\/p>\n

Don’t Let Mistakes Discourage, Learn From Them<\/p>\n

People tend to make mistakes it’s part of the learning experience whether you’re gardening or learning to ride a bicycle. I’m the guy that just jumps into things with out always thinking first so I have made my share of screwups, the key is to not give up trying after your first mistake. Vegetable gardening has a learning curve like most things in life, so just learn from your mistakes and keep on growing.<\/p>\n

Herb Gardening Indoors Is Worth Trying<\/p>\n

Spring, summer and fall were here and gone way too soon. Next gardening season was still months away. So, I decided it would be interesting to try my hand at growing a few kitchen herbs right in the kitchen.<\/p>\n

To our great delight growing a kitchen herb garden right on our kitchen windowsill is easier to grow than we had first thought. It’s great having a fresh supply of the herbs we like the most. <\/p>\n

Vegetables Are Tastier, Healthier And Less Expensive To Grow Organically<\/p>\n

Looking back to my childhood it’s a wonder any of us survived as my Dad used to spray poison all over the garden Nowadays We raise vegetables naturally without poisons.<\/p>\n

Our soil here is dense clay that doesn’t drain well at all so we add our own compost, straight from our compost bin and also peatmoss to loosen the soil. This helps our veggie garden drain better and allows our vegetables to grow strong healthy root systems.<\/p>\n
