The problems of how to get rid of ants in the kitchen, and how to get rid of ants in the house fall within the same ambit. The estimated human population of the Earth is nearly seven billion and the estimated pismire population very much greater being estimated at a quadrillion. This means that there are about seventy million times as many of the adversary on the planet as there are human beings.

They have been here for about for about one hundred and twenty million years, as against human beings who have only been here for four million years at most. It is not surprising to find that they have super efficient social systems and work ethics that surpasses those of any known race of human beings. It might also be expected that at least some of the twelve thousand species are likely to be here when human beings have become extinct.

Given that scenario it might be better to re-phrase the question as, ‘How can I stop these creatures being a nuisance in my house? It may be a more feasible challenge to work out how best to live in harmony with the astonishing creatures that share the planet with us

These little creatures are even more vicious than human beings when it comes to defending their own territory against others of their kind. However their contacts with human beings usually occur in the course of day-to-day work as they forage for supplies. It is difficult to negotiate with them since we do not fully understand their communication systems, nor they ours.

Black carpenters can alter the structure of a building even though they personally do not eat wood. Ants in the pants can also bite when they feel confused and lost, reminding us sharply of the adventurous, exciting and tragic lives that so many of the workers live.

Perhaps an important reason for their success is their social structure. They all work entirely for the good of the community. This great strength is also a weakness that can be exploited in respect of particular colonies.

One method of destroying an entire colony is to mix deadly chemicals with tasty morsels that they need, such as sweetness and fat. This bait is placed near the main highways and when found by workers is hastily removed and fed to the queen of the colony who will get sick and stop laying the millions of eggs that are needed for the survival of the community. Such is the defect of monarchist systems that can be destroyed by cunning.

Those who cannot bring themselves to engage in such underhand tactics can adopt a more usual human strategy, locate the nest and obliterate it entirely using bombs, fire and gas. The problem with such warlike tactics is that they usually involve great expenditure and damage for the aggressor and more space for a new colony to move in when victory has finally been secured. Negotiation is usually preferable and here computer technology comes in useful. Online sites dealing with how to get rid of black ants can be consulted.
