Not everyone likes hanging baskets, but they have remained a mainstay of many a gardener and bring a cheery splash of colour to any garden. When planted carefully they can be the perfect frame for many types of flower – you can even grow fruit and vegetables in them!<\/p>\n
How? Hanging Planters! They are easy to use, relatively simple to erect and don’t take a huge amount of maintenance. A window box on a summer day can provide colour and scent if planted appropriately. Cheaper than flower deliveries too!<\/p>\n
Make sure to clean your planters out properly, wash them in some soapy water and leave to dry. You may even want to give them a quick spray with some pesticide to get rid of any potential nasties.<\/p>\n
If you are trying something new this year there are many kinds available now including a variety of baskets, planters and pots some even self watering if you find it difficult to get to them.<\/p>\n
Bear in mind your planter could get quite heavy once it has liners, compost, plants and water in it so choose one wisely.<\/p>\n
Fill the planter about half way with compost and then add your chosen plants. If you kept some seeds from the previous year and have them ready to plant now you can add those, or you may wish to try something new.<\/p>\n
If you are feeling adventurous try strawberries, tomatoes or peppers. flower varieties you might like to plant include: Viola, Campanula and Ivy-leafed Geraniums, try and include a good mix of plants and it can be a good idea to include some which stand upright like Pansy, Impatiens or Begonia. If you are buying plants remember to plan fruit, veg or flower deliveries in time so you can plant up to make the most of growing seasons.<\/p>\n
Top up the compost and top off with some moss to help keep the water in and to make it look nice. Remember it will be heavier now so take care when placing the baskets and make sure you water the plants in well. Other than that if you keep them watered daily you will find they should give you color and joy throughout their growing season.<\/p>\n
