Perform Your Activity In A Garden Studio

If your work schedule is flexible or you work long hours, why not have a garden studio constructed in the proximity of your house? It is within anyone’s budget, an efficient work solution, and you don’t have to worry what happens at home. Your worries unsupported, you have the added benefit of working in the middle of nature, which is wonderful in summer and a place of retreat at all times. The stress of the city does not reach you in here, and you may focus completely on your activity, having besides all the facilities of modern life. What else do you need to get the best results?

Moreover, think about the main argument for having a garden studio – the improvement of your work leading to increasing income or quality of performance. If your aim is making more money, you could definitely reach it by better working conditions and all the possible amenities. If fine arts or music is the scope of your activity, you need most peace and quiet you can get in order to enhance your performance, and the garden studio is the exact place to ensure you that.

If your work is not the cleanest one – you are an automotive mechanic or a potter, in a garden studio you can protect your house against mess, and you and yours tools are in turn protected against bad weather, moisture or rust. You do not want to face capricious nature in winter or storm.

If you need a garden studio for your gym, this means you are interested in your health, and what healthier place to implement that interest than in the middle of nature? Nature is also the best aid for thinking and reflection; therefore, a library too would find the best shelter in a garden studio.

In conclusion, if you need a special place where to achieve your work tasks in peace and quiet, do not disregard the potential use of that forgotten shed in your garden where you keep old stuff and tools. It may be transformed in the most modern garden studio with low costs but huge benefits.

The garden studios are a unique exercise in balance between aspect and utility, between emphasis on advanced technology and natural materials and the impact on their vicinity.

Attacking Insects With Insecticides

Most people have an exaggerated hatred of insects. Especially people who live in towns and cities. People who live in the country are a little more tolerant of them. But why are we like that with insects? Why are we always squashing them and poisoning them? All right, we do not want to share our homes with them, I think that is fair enough, but I also think that we go too far usually.

Instead of just killing them on sight, it may be better to try stopping them getting into the house in the first place. A lot of people appear to assume that all insects are troublesome, but this is just not the case. Just think how many more flies we would have flying around us and landing on our food, if it were not for spiders, but I do not know anyone who likes spiders. They do not appear to get much credit for doing a great job. We are on the same side against flies.

But then flies help to quicken the decomposing of dead animals as well. Their maggots eat the decomposing flesh of dead animals, which keeps disease and bad smells under control. Ants do the same for dead insects and cockroaches do it for scraps of food left lying about. I have not found a good reason for mosquitoes, fleas or ticks yet however.

One thing is for certain, this inbred or learned hatred or dread of insects does not do the manufacturers of insecticides any harm financially. Perhaps it is time to take a step back from our paranoia about insects. It is well past time to be more judicious in our slaughter of insects.

For instance, when you spray your beautiful rose bushes with a chemical insecticide, you want to get rid of greenfly (aphids), but you are also killing the ants, the ladybirds, the spiders and possibly any bees or butterflies that come to feed and pollinate. Whereas, if you had sprayed the bushes with old, filtered washing up water, you would only have killed the greenfly.

Where would we all be if everyone killed all the pollinators? Cropless? In fact, the shortage of bees is already a global catastrophe. Although the reason for their fast declining numbers is not quite obvious, it cannot do any good having their immune system or nervous system attacked by the residue of insecticides whenever they take a drink of nectar.

Likewise with butterflies. Gardeners do not like caterpillars, but everyone like butterflies and where would we be without them? In a much duller place, I am sure. Some species of wasps kill thousands of caterpillars. so, it is better to support them rather than kill the caterpillars yourself with a nuclear bomb of a chemical spray.

Some handy natural ways of controlling insects are by the use of washes containing Neem, Tobacco or Pyrethrum. These natural treatments deter them in small doses but will kill if used in a concentrated solution. Look out for products containing them and read the directions carefully to see if they suit your requirements. Borax will help control insect pests that eat their way around your house and so will corn flour.

There are many ways that people can be more discriminating when attacking insects. The main issue is that it is a lot easier to go get a spray, but if you do some research, you will find loads of ways of attacking insects with natural insecticides.

Your Backyard Is The Best Place To Start Beekeeping

Since many of us live in modern cities and towns, some think that beekeeping is impractical or impossible to accomplish. This is simply not true. Many modern beekeepers install hives in their backyards.

Some people even keep Langstroth hives on top of buildings! That’s how flexible apiculture is. As long as the beekeeper is conscientious with the care and maintenance of the hive and the colony, everything is likely to work out well for both the bee and the beekeeper.

People have a false sense of thinking that bees need good and large crops of plants nearby for them to forage. In reality bees travel long distances to obtain nectar to feed the colony.

Bees tend to sting when threatened and this can be a big reason to worry in the city for neighbors. When you are trying to start a bee hive in your backyard the neighbors are going object or fight against it because of the fear of bee stings.

This is not a serious issue to worry about and you should begin preparing your neighbors before you even begin. Bee sting is not a cause to fear if you take certain precautions before you set up.

Many beekeepers have bee hives in their back yards. Some bees are even kept on city roof-tops. Bees can travel several miles to collect nectar and pollen, so they do not need flowering plants close by. Most suburbs have plenty of flowers, and bees can make a good crop of local honey.

Well it is still a choice for many to maintain their beekeeping with arrangements with close by farmers. Contact the local associations and they will be a good source of information. There are many farmers who can suggest locations because of the value it brings to pollination.

Installing a Fence

If you live in the suburbs with neighbors in close proximity to your own backyard, you have to install a new fence. The new fence should be at least six feet high to make sure that your bees will be flying above people’s heads and not lower. You can also install a fence that is higher than six feet.

The fence will help in avoiding any kind of meeting with neighbors. This will also hide it from the neighbors and prevent any unnecessary concern to start with.

The fence not only protects you from neighbors but also from strong winds that can damage your hives.

Puggle: A Cute And Adorable Dog

If you’re looking at getting a Puggle puppy as your new pet, you might first want to find out all there is to know about Puggles and Puggle puppies in general. This will give you a good grounding in what you will have to deal with when you get your new Puggle puppy and what you will have to look forward to as your Puggle puppy matures into a full grown adult Puggle.

The first and the foremost thing that should be noted is that a mature Puggle is almost of the same height as a Puggle puppy, i.e. 13-15 inches in height and about 14-20 pounds in weight. This means that you can easily keep your fully grown Puggle dog in our lap just like you use to keep him in your lap when he was a small puppy (unless of course it is in a mood to play and refuses to sit in your lap!)

A Puggle, if you were unaware of it, is a cross between a Beagle and a Pug dog. To be considered a true blue Puggle puppy it needs to be bred from a pure bred Beagle mother and a pure bred Pug father. The resulting Puggle puppy can have anything between mainly Beagle features to mainly Pug-like features.

If you’re looking for variety in the choice of coat for your new Puggle puppy, you can choose from the more common tan color, beige, black, silver and sometimes a fawn and white-spotted mix. The coat of your Puggle puppy will be short, and smooth and will typically require little grooming.

They also have the characteristic wrinkled face and droopy ears of their parents and display a tendency to be short and stocky, with a waggly curly tail. A Puggle puppy is an affectionate creature and requires more time spent on lavishing love and attention than on grooming!

A Puggle puppy is a power packed pet and just loves to play, and this is the reason why they make good family pets, especially if the family consists of young children who are eager to play with the puppy. Even though Puggles are very friendly, they can be more social if they are introduced to the concept at a very early age.

Don’t however mistake this friendliness as anything more than a good temperament, as a Puggle puppy once trained will make a reasonably good watch dog. They don’t tend to howl like their beagle mothers, but you will find that a warning bark or two are given to any strangers wandering by.

Your Puggle puppy, besides being energetic and mischief prone, will also be intelligent and trainable. They have good listening skills and they will become very loyal to their masters.

However the best trait of a Puggle is its cut and adorable appearance. The wrinkled face and the cute droopy ears make a Puggle puppy a truly captivating puppy that is very difficult to ignore.

What To Look For When Going To Pattaya Flower Gardens

In 1954 Mr and Mrs Nong Nooch purchased the land in Pattaya, originally the concept was to utilize this as farm land however they were inspired by an overseas trip and made a decision to convert the land into tropical flower gardens. Formerly suitable for preservation of tropical vegetation species the gardens were later turned into a recreational and tourist attraction. The word Suan indicates garden, so the name translated into English implies Nong Nooch (family) gardens. The garden is currently operated by their son Mr. Kampon Tansacha.

The Nong Nooch Pattaya flower garden has become a well known attraction and the beautiful garden is currently used as a location to host a number of different events. These events range from flower shows, florist exhibitions, botanical research, preservation, education and for the promotion of tourism in Pattaya. The most famous use of the Pattaya Flower gardens is for the Thai Cultural Show which is an annual occasion in Pattaya.

Each day the flower gardens have more than 2000 visitors, a great number of visitors come from other areas in Thailand however, many travel from other areas of Asia and all over the world to see these wonderful gardens. The flower gardens are kept in perfect form and they’re constantly being enhanced with completely new flowers being added every day.

The Thai cultural show and dances take place every single day, they usually start with The Elephant Show in which Elephants are put through humiliation by being meant to play football, ride motorbikes and dancing. This is among the more controversial parts of the flower show and they’re considering stopping these shows. To Thai people Elephants are respected and have an almost holy status, but to people from other countries and animal rights activists this use of Elephants is usually deemed unacceptable.

There are a number of cultural activities per day which include dancing, and theatrical shows of Thai history and culture.

Nong Nuch Flower gardens in Pattaya are located on the old Sukhumvit Road, which is the joining road between Bangkok and Pattaya. The best way from downtown Pattaya to the flower gardens is by Cab. Local flower garden trips may also be booked from travel agencies in Pattaya. Shop around for the best rates since they can vary significantly.

If you are a kind of person who loves nature then Pattaya Flower garden is the right place for you. See and experience nature at its best. Should you wish to know more details about the garden you may want to visit www.gogoflorist.com for more details.

Taking Care For Your Fish Pond In Winter

If you reside in a temperate zone, fish from temperate zones can easily overwinter outside. On the other hand, tropical fish would die without a water heater. We will be looking at how you can keep cold water, temperate climate fish happy during a typical winter.

If you live in an area where winter is cold enough to create ice, you will have to bear this in mind when you construct your fish pond. How thick is ice normally in your region? In most cases, a ‘deep end’ of thirty to forty five inches should be sufficient, but you will have to get advice locally if you do not know the answer. A pet shop, a neighbour or the zoo can offer the required advice.

The other problem with winter and ice is that a layer of ice prevents noxious gases escaping and oxygen entering, as it would do in the normal course of events. Therefore, you will have to ensure that there is always a hole in the ice. However, smashing a hole will frighten the fish.

There are several ways by which this air hole can be kept open under mild freezing conditions:

Aerator: a bubbler, can be positioned in the pond. It has to be submerged, obviously, and it has to be fairly vigorous, so that the bubbles keep breaking the ice above it. If it is put in water that is too shallow, it can freeze up too, so that is a consideration to be borne in mind.

De-icer: a mild, floating heater. This kind of apparatus does not produce enough heat to threaten pond liners, but it is adequate to keep a small surface locale ice free under most weather conditions.

Water pump: a pump pumping water at force through the surface can keep a breathing hole in your pond, but only under fairly mild icy conditions. The pump must be placed in deep water or it could freeze solid.

Hoola-Hoop: if the weather is only mildly icy, a hoola-hoop with a round football floating in its centre can be successful at preventing ice forming within the hoop. The wind keeps the ball moving within the hoop and ice does not get a chance to develop.

This hole in the ice is critical. Your fish will be semi-dormant in the winter and you may not see them for months, but they still need to breathe and excrete and the gases that that and the plants give off need to be allowed to escape or they will poison the water and kill your fish.

At this time of the year it is extremely important not to over-feed. Fish build up layers of fat in the summer and live off that fat during their semi-hibernation in the winter, but they do eat occasionally. The only problem for you is that you will not know which days they decide to come up for a bite.

This is where the hoola-hoop can come in handy again. If you only feed within the hoola hoop, you can see how much food has been taken and how much has been left. Aspire to give no more than they will eat.

Consider A Few Factors Prior To You Decide To Build Or Buy Chicken Pens

In these times of economic hardship, most people have comprehended with the idea of raising chicken. It is a good way of being a little more self-sufficient. Unluckily, most people jump into the idea of raising chicken without further research. They further build chicken pens on their own only to find out frustrating truths about chicken rearing. Before spending any cent in building chicken pens, one should consider various factors.

To begin with, we should be able to determine the proper place to position the pen. It should not be placed very close to the house because it will produce some foul smell as time goes. We should make sure that there is adequate sunlight for the chicken. Too much sun can harm the birds. We should also bear in mind that the yearly seasons as we have the north wind during winter that can freeze the birds to death. Proper positioning of the pen is one key factor to success when keeping chicken.

Secondly, one should determine whether it is possible to have full access of the pen especially when it requires cleaning. It should be in a position where one can bring water and food with ease. A good pen should have a shelter to protect the chicken from rain. If the pen is left without a shelter and it happens to rain, one would wake up the next day to find all the chicken dead. This is very frustrating especially after spending so much money.

There are two options when one wants to construct a chicken pen. It can be built in a workshop or garage or one can have it built on- site. The one built on- site is the best because once you are through it can be used there and then. The one built in the garage needs to be taken out daily and this might not be flexible due to its size and weight.

When a person decides to keep chicken, he or she should also know other factors like the different types of chicken. Some hates each other. Some hens are slow in their pecking order and must wait for others to eat thus having nothing left. It is therefore good to plan well before buying them.

Always remember to place the pen where mice, snakes and rats cannot access. Predators like raccoons can also rip off your chicken. Have a sturdy chicken pen with screened windows for protection. For those who wish to increase the number of chicken, it is good to plan and get a larger space.

With proper planning and good building plans, one can enjoy a great time raising chicken. Proper chicken house plans provides gradual instructions in building affordable chicken pens.

When you decide to raise poultry, you must first consider whether you want to build your own chicken runs or if it would be better for you to buy chicken coops. Study before acting.

Varieties Of Spring Shrubs

These words will be read at about the beginning of the fall planting season, and so it may be well to consider some improvements in the spring garden which can be made by the planting of well chosen shrubs in the fall.

At the outset, however, I must emphasize that only shrubs which have matured and are really fit for moving should be planted or moved at this time, because all the advantages of fall planting may be lost if the growth of shrubs or rose plants has not matured and reached the beginning of its dormant period.

I grew up in an atmosphere of Spiraea vanhouttei and what were called “snowballs,” which preceded the mock-oranges and the weigelas. Then we came to have Hydrangea paniculata grandiflora, which we now call “Peegee.” This particular shrub, from Japan, was violently advertised and came close to covering the entire country with its summer blooms which were actually praised because they never ended but hung on in a dirty, dull pink – if you could call it pink – over the winter. Myself I like the look of a full flowered bougainvillea to dress the patio.

Incidentally, it was all of 20 years before I discovered that H. paniculata – not Peegeewas a grand and different shrub which could be relied upon to do a beautiful late summer job without any winter imposition. And I am sorry that this is not more widely grown, because it is vigorous enough and much more beautiful than the overdone Peegee ever was.

For a long time the planting about my summer home at Eagles Mere was dominated by a man who really knew only three plants, which he called hydrangea, lilac and fern. As time went on it seemed advisable to look for other spring flowering material, and for aid in that direction I turned to some real plant lovers among the nurserymen, who responded with many other items.

Common Indoor Bugs

Some of the most common indoor bugs we see all over the world are flies, spiders, fleas and beetles. Nobody likes to have insects in the house, so most people will go to just about any lengths to get rid of these common indoor bugs. The less common indoor bugs may be woodlice, earwigs, scorpions and millipedes or centipedes, although they are no less unwelcome.

No matter where you live in the world, it can be very hard to keep these common indoor bugs outside, unless you go to the extremes of keeping all your windows and doors shut all of the time, which is obviously impossible. I now live in Thailand and I know for certain that this is not possible.

So, just what can you do about it? Well, let’s sort out all the flying bugs first, because of all the common indoor bugs, I find them the most obnoxious indoor bug. They are very irritating, buzzing around your head and mosquitoes and other flies can create painful sores and besides that, all flies spread disease. I hate to see them walking on food, knowing that they have more than likely just come off some dog’s muck somewhere and now they are spitting on my food to taste it with their stinking feet!

My first line of defence is fine-mesh door and widow screens. They are not expensive and can be added retrospectively to any window. My window meshes slide, so they will protect only one half of the window at a any one time, but I do not find that a problem. You can still set up cross-winds, by opening two or more windows at opposing ends of a room. I just love to see the flies on the mesh trying to get in by day and the mosquitoes doing the same by night. At night, it is wise to turn on as little light indoors as possible so as not to draw these common indoor insects.

My second line of defence is natural predators – lizards, like Geckos (Jin Jok, in Thai). Some people don’t like them in the house either. I can’t say I’m all that keen on them indoors myself, but they are hard to keep out and they do consume hundreds, if not thousands, of indoor bugs every day. I like to see them lying in wait on the outside of the mesh, ready to jump on any bug trying to struggle its way through the wires.

My third line of defence is an indoor bug zapper. You know, the electric, handheld bug zapper that looks like a toy tennis racquet. The come in two forms: battery and rechargeable kinds. They are fantastic at trapping and annihilating any flying bug. The inset literally explodes and vaporizes on contact with the fully-charged wires of the indoor bug zapper. If you haven’t tried using one, you really ought to. They are most satisfying. These three defences will keep your house pretty much free of flying insects.

The crawling common indoor bugs are less of a problem really. Door screens on springs will keep 99% of them out and the Geckos will help too. Spiders can get in pretty easily, but then, I don’t mind them too much as long as they stay away from me, as they eat other bugs too. They are on our side to be honest. However, for those who can not bear to trap them and throw them outside, the handheld indoor bug zapper works well on spiders too.

Fleas can be a problem, if you keep cats or dogs, but then if you wash or dust the animal once a month, you should be able to keep those common indoor bugs under control quite easily. However, there are two final methods that we use. Once a week, before we go out for the day, we spray every room with fly killer and every six-months we spray any rugs or carpets with an insect killer containing permethrin, which will survive washing and vacuuming for that long without losing its ability to kill common indoor bugs on contact. If you follow these measures, you should be able to keep your home or office quite free of the most common indoor bugs and any less common indoor bug as well.

Have you ever used an indoor bug zapper? If not, or if you are interested in getting an indoor bug zapper, please click one of the hyperlinks to our web site or blog.

Invest Your Money Judiciously In A Garden Studio

It is clear why after the last real estate bubble people are rather reluctant to apply for a mortgage; the image of the foreclosure signs all along the highway cannot be dismissed from their minds, it remains imprinted there together with the stories reported all over the news on the TV or in the newspapers about families with kids crammed in a room or living outdoors after the bank seized their houses because they were not able to pay back their credits. In such a context, if you require additional living space and your house is yours, the optimal manner to use your money is to buy a garden studio that can be erected in no time on any spot you choose in your garden or backyard. It is hard to believe you won’t find some 13-15 sq m available!

The planning rules usually don’t apply to such small structures. This is not a house extension but a structure limited in area and with a roof some 2.5 meters above the ground.

Any judicious investor would ask next if it could afford what is interested in. Well, you don’t need more than 12,500 -13,000 for a garden studio ready to be used and as solid and functional as your house. For such a price, the only space alternative would be to rent some place, but your money would last just one or two years, while this structure will be yours and last for decades! It is not hard to see what alternative a judicious investor would opt for.

Plot, planning and price having been approached, perhaps you are not sure about the functionality and durability of your prospective acquisition. As regards purchases, people usually direct themselves by the quality/price ratio, so could not understand how they could get something really good really cheap. And even more so a small house including all that is needed! There are bargains in this world, but no wonders.

This low price has another explanation than what you fear. Garden studios are products of advanced building technologies and materials, but to the extent these became mass products they became cheaper. Everyone knows that technology is in a permanent development. Just think about the high-tech gadgets your kids would like to get a few years ago, and you couldn’t afford, and now are laughably cheap. So you should have no fears that your investment in a garden studio would be misplaced.

The garden studios are a fine exercise in balance between beauty and utility, between focus on state-of-the-arts technology and natural materials and the impact on their surroundings.
