Options For Where To Build A Conservatory Or Orangery
It is a tough decision when deciding where you will add a conservatory to your house. The location of where you would like the conservatory and the conservatory furniture in it is often dictated by the planned use of the conservatory. If you want to use it as a dining room or kitchen extension it obviously needs to be near the current kitchen, if you are using it as a snug or office it doesn’t matter too much, if you want to use it as a sun room then you want the conservatory to be south facing.
In this guide we will cover a few points to consider when planning to add a conservatory to the front, side of rear of your house.
Front Of Property – Having a conservatory built on the front of your house is the least most popular option. Here are a few of the reasons. Firstly the conservatory is largely a glazed construction which will therefore make the inside of your house visible to everyone walking or driving past your property. An orangery would provide a bit more privacy by creating either low or full height solid walls, stopping the world seeing in as much. On top of the privacy issues, you would probably need to apply for planning permission to have the conservatory on the front of the property and the chances of it being approved are slim.
Side Of Property – You will have more privacy and planning wont be as much of an issue, but it still suffers the same negatives as the front of the property. You will of course lose valuable space off the side of your house and possibly access to your rear garden without having to go through the house.
Rear Of Property – The final and most popular place to have the conservatory is the rear of the property. As the conservatory will be hidden away in your garden, you are far more likely to have the planning permission approved and you will not have to worry about people walking past and looking in either. The only downside of having the conservatory built at the rear of the property is that it may not be off the room you want, or may not face the direction that you want it to.
