Blooms with a higher moisture content dry better with the use of a drying agent such as silica gel, which can be readily bought in craft stores. The flattened version of preserved flowers are often made with heavy books: you can just slip the bloom between pages and press down. For several days’ wait, go with silica gel; for several weeks’ wait, go with press techniques. There are a variety of uses for dried flowers once they are collected.
