Excellent Product But Hard To Find – Lawn Edger Tool Critique

This is the latest version of an edger B&D has been making for at least 20 years, and there are plenty of the 20 year old models still in use. It’s nearly silent, much easier to use than a gas model, and seems to cut better with less stalling than my neighbor’s 3.5HP gas model. I am in a newer community and I discovered that there are many rocks along the edge of the pavement and my yard. The edge hog threw one of these rocks toward my neighbor’s house, and almost hit her and could have easily shattered a window were her car in the driveway.

So in a few minutes my sidewalk and driveway looks pretty good. Of those who do edge, most of them have no clear dirt line. Unless I’m overlooking the obvious, it’s of little use to me. I find this edger does remain in the edger position when in use. The blade is not sharp and showed considerable abrasion and wear after just a few of minutes of use. This product is like everything else Black and Decker has made in the last decade or so…junk. I am not happy with the short handle on this edger or the strength of the machine. I have used it only once and it worked well It won’t cut the grass, it just crush… My overgrowth at the edges was substantial so I really had to labor with the manual edger. Lots of elbow grease but I managed to dig a decent “trench” at the paving.

But the end result was worth it! My yard looks great. This product is excellent. Plenty of power, it does the job well. Since then I’ve had clean lines and works easily! For the price, this is the best edger!

This B&D Hog Electric Edger gives excellent results, and it is very easy to operate. I’m retired now, and I’ve used several Gas and Electric edgers before. As a teenager, I used a manual edger. Once I left home, I left yard work to others.

After this initial effort to get a good looking edge, it became easy to maintain it by using the edge guide, setting it at 1-1/2″ depth, and just running it once with wheels on the curb side. Please be careful about taking all safety precautions, and about avoiding the blade hitting the concrete curb when following this method.

Our house had not been edged for several years when we moved in. I bought this product for several reasons. It goes on easily enough and the wear indicators will let you know when to change it. I bought my first home in May of this year, so I’m fairly new at lawn maintenance.

This will be the nicest looking piece of trash that I’ll have had the pleasure of disposing of. LANDSCAPING BLOCKS.
